Beachs, swimming Cinque Terre

We are headed to Riomaggorie (starting point Milan) and hope to store our luggage and relax on the beach at Monterossa. I see in previous posts that there are pay and free beaches. Would there be a place to change into swimsuits? Are the beaches easy to find from the train. We would spend a few hours, then get back on the train to Riomaggorie. I know CT is about hiking or seeing from the water, but we were hoping for a little downtime. We have the next 1-2 days following our arrival to hike.

can,

A few thoughts on your plans.....

I believe Monterosso may have luggage storage, but I'm not sure (I've never had any reason to look). You could also go directly to Riomaggiore, drop your luggage at your lodgings and then return to Monterosso. It only takes a few minutes.

YES, the beaches are easy to find - the large beach in the "new town" is right outside the exit to the train station. THIS is the beach in the "new town" (the train station is visible in the distance). I've never used the pay beaches, but I think they offer small cabanas to change (look at the brown buildings on the beach side of the road). I don't recall any changing facilities at the beach in the "old town".

If you were planning to hike the popular Sentiero Azzurro trails, note that only two of the four segments are currently open, and that's not likely to change any time soon. A Park Pass is required to hike the S.A. trails. If you like hiking, there's an extensive network of other trails so you can spend as much time wandering about the hills as you like.

I take it you are staying in Riomaggiore? Why not check in to your room, change into bathing suits and coverups, bring your towels, etc. and hop the train to Monterosso. Takes about 7-10 minutes. Get off the train, follow the crowds and signs, and within about 5 minutes you will find the beach.

If you are looking more for swimming than for a beach, Manarola has a great place to swim! I don't recall seeing much of a beach, but tons of people lounging on the rocks, sunbathing, cliff diving, and swimming. We were sooooo sad we didn't have our suits with us that day because it looked like an amazing place to take a dip!
