I usually help others...But I need help now because Pisa isn't my stomping ground..I am flying in with my mother to Pisa Airport on a Thursday in August..We just want to relax and then venture to Tuscany on Saturday..I have looked at many areas online..I would like a place by the beach that is unique and not a far drive from the airport..I researched Viareggio+ Livorno..But not too set..Any suggestions for hotels/nice area...Thanks Susan
Yeah I have heard all the stuff about Cinque Terre..But I can't sleep on planes and will want to face-plant when I arrive there..I don't know if it is good to try to navigate all the trains with 3 luggages(I will be going to Italy for a month)..And it will be my mother's first time.I don't know if I can handle all that on no sleep...And we only have 1.5 days...would you recommend anything around Viareggio?
Actually we might go with Cinque Terre now because we will have a longer time...Do you recommend any hotels in Vernazza?
The Versilian coast, which stretches from Viareggio up to Marina di Pietrasanta, is most everyone's idea of a real beach---sandy beach stretching for miles. There are numerous oceanfront resorts with many hotels along there if that is what you are looking for in the way of post-flight relaxation.
But if you do wish to stay in one of the Cinque Terre villages (most of which have no beach), then I can highly recommend Hotel La Toretta in Manarola. What a beautiful and relaxing place. If you have a car, it is easily accessible via a nearly level walk from the town parking lot at the top of the village. By train (which is definitely not relaxing) it is a steep walk from the Manarola station to the top of the village, but there are no steps to negotiate. They will also pick you up in La Spezia and bring you to the hotel by car for around 80 euro.
