Beaches in Salerno, Paestum and Maiori

Me again! Family of 4 traveling to Italy in July. Daughter’s graduation present and she would like a beach. We are staying 4 nights in Salerno. (Beginning trip in Venice so might have afternoon for Lido)
Monday: arrive from Florence 1pm or 2pm
Tuesday: AC
Wed: Paestum
Thurs: Pompei
Friday: Rome 4N

This is what I’ve gathered so far off the forum:

The only true sandy beach on the Amalfi Coast is Maiori.
Maiori By Sita bus, purchase a daily 24hr ticket for €6,80. You'll have 1 change in Amalfi and will have to take another bus from there to Maiori. Total time with change is 2:20. Free areas on each end of the beach. On the way back, try to take the second to last bus.
Maiori by Ferry - 7 euros each way, 30 minutes, several per day http://www.travelmar.it/downloads/orari_travelmar.pdf

Paestum - just a few minutes' walk from the historic center

Salerno - large sandy beach and excellent bars and restaurants. the beach at Salerno charges nothing. Seem to remember a cheap chair/umbrella kiosk on the promenade for rentals.

Is Maiori even feasible in our itinerary? Paestum and/or Salerno beaches seem to be easy additions. Which is the best beach? How do we get to beach in Salerno? Paestum seems small so beach should be easy to find. Are there restrooms and food near?

I appreciate additional info and advice,
Kelly

A stop in Maiori on your AC day could work and as I understand it that is the best beach- sandy, etc. If you are taking ferry that day maybe go as far as Positano- visit- then hop back on- visit Amalfi- then back on ferry to Maoiri as last stop. At least the ferry puts you on the beach as opposed to bus which will mean a walk thru town to beach. Just be sure you know ferry schedule to get home!- not all stop in Maiori.

Salerno- the beach runs the length of the Lungomare- easy walk from anywhere in town. Where exactly are you staying?
Probably easiest if you are staying IN Salerno- can go to beach after any of your day trips and enjoy til as late in evening as you like. Sunset 8:30ish

Paestum- Google maps says 35 min walk from the Paestium site which is where I assume you will be. Probably not the best option.

Also note both Positano and Amalfi have beaches- not sandy- pebbly- but they do have wooden walkways down to the water that are kind of nice. Neither beach is large and I just wonder what sort of "beach" experience your daughter thinks she will get? If just to sit and sun herself, maybe dip into the water any would work.

Use Google images- search for "Amalfi beach" or Positano beach" etc so she has a good idea of what she will actually experience

Kelly, those bus directions are from Sorrento, it should take about an hour Salerno-Maiori.

The ferry only takes 30 min. The beach in Salerno is by far the largest in the area, try that first.

Christine-thank you for all your thoughts and info.

Gerri- good catch on the bus info. I had just copied and pasted -obviously I didn’t think about what it was telling me. Thank you also on your thoughts.

I was in Salerno in February, so the beach was not crowded - it was warm and sunny and there were people on the beach, maybe even a few waded in the water briefly. If you are in Salerno for more than 5 minutes, you can't miss it. It's very big compared to others on the AC - and by the way, Salerno is on the Amalfi coast. Why would you shlep beach stuff and have a long trip back to the hotel from Maiori or Paestum, with damp things and lots of gritty sand and have phones, cameras, and other valuables with you on the beach? As Christine says, much easier to go to the beach in the early morning (brisk swim/dip to get you going) or late afternoon (relaxing after a tiring day) in Salerno, especially if you're sleeping within walking distance.

If any of you likes pastries or gelato, stop in Minori (you can walk from Maiori) at Sal de Riso. I'm pretty sure both the bus and the ferries stop in both Minori and Maiori. The pastries are to die for. The best gelato in Salerno is at Nettuno, near the beach/promenade.
