Beach in Ostia

My husband and daughter have requested a stop at the beach in Ostia after we visit Ostia Antica in two weeks. We are well aware it will be too cold to swim - they would just like to walk around the beach a few minutes.

Can you recommend which stop on the Roma-Lido line? There seem to be four along the coast, starting with Lido Centro.

And then, can you recommend a beach? I'm assuming we should go to a public beach?

Thanks for any guidance you can give me for our short "see the sea" stop in Ostia!

If I were you, I would get off at Lido Centro. It's about a 10 minute walk to the main "Piazza dei Ravennati" which has a pier that sticks out into the water. Here are directions:

Here's the view from the end of that pier (360 degree): https://goo.gl/maps/yyNVYBaniit

No need to worry about public versus private beach if you're just going to walk along the shore. The shoreline at the water is entirely public - the private beaches start a certain distance back from the water.

You're welcome. And don't be intimidated by the gritty nature of the area around the train station. Perfectly safe with the usual precautions you should be following everywhere.

Also, there's a decent pizza/sandwich place at the Piazza della Posta. Called Andrino's. Under some trees. Here's a link to the Streetview of it: https://goo.gl/maps/UMV1J6wkL3R2
