Our family will be in Rome while my daughter celebrates her birthday. She has requested a "beach day" on her special day. We would also like to day trip to Naples at some point. Is it feasible to connect these two excursions? And, if so, what beaches do you recommend in Naples that are also easily accessed? Thank you.
You may want to consider Sperlonga. Connections between Rome & Naples. Our daughter has a friend she visited in Rome and she enjoyed a day trip there. Hope this helps. https://www.timeout.com/rome/things-to-do/best-beaches-in-rome.

Adding a plug for Sperlonga. When I lived in Rome, it's where we would go for a special day trip to the beach - so beautiful & charming. It's halfway between Rome & Naples. Be sure to stop for some fresh Mozzarella di Bufala from one of the small cheese factories you'll pass en route.
Tell us more about the Naples day trip--are you going to Naples, or Pompeii or something else? Taking train?
I'd lean toward keeping them separate, but we need to know more about what you had in mind.
We had planned on Pompeii and Naples as a (long) day trip but when our daughter requested the beach, we shelved Pompeii. We will have to see Pompeii on another visit. We will be taking the train from Rome and plan on discovering Naples through RS Naples Walk. (We love his walks!) So, we could go to a beach first and then hit Naples in the afternoon/evening or we could do Naples first and then go to a beach. Any suggestions and recommendations are welcome. Thanks.
Gotcha, I still think I would keep them separate. You'll have to schlep your things in the heat, and there would be considerable more travel involved to get to any beach worth going to near Naples. I think an exciting day in the city of Naples, and another relaxing day at Sperlonga would be great.
Naples and beaches are not usually mentioned in the same sentence. True, there are narrow strips of sand in some places near Naples, including Lucrino and the base area around Posillipo, but these are not tourist friendly areas, and for all intents and purposes, there are much better beaches north of Naples or on the islands, including Ischia.
Logistically, going from Rome to Sperlonga and then on to Naples is a bit of a long slog, complicated by the issue of transportation. While Sperlonga is convenient by car, Naples definitely is not car friendly for tourists, leading to the question of how you plan to get around to and between these two areas.
Same day beach and Naples excursions would not be my idea of a good time. Devote one day to Naples if you like and then another to someplace beachy like Ostia or Sperlonga.
