Anyone have any feedback on Baveno? How does it compare to Como? We'd like to get a taste of the Alps from within Italy. We are going to have a couple of days on the backend of our trip before we fly out of Milan. Anything within a couple hour drive or train ride from Milan Malpensa?

We just returned from Italy and ended our 30 day trip in Baveno. Can't compare it to Como, because we've never been there. We thought Baveno was a good choice. It's small enough to be easily navigable, but it has restaurants, bars, banks, etc. It's very close to Stresa, where we went for a day, but less expensive. The lake boats make a stop there, so we were able to get out to the Borromean Islands very easily. There is a funicular at Stresa, which takes you to a peak from which, we are told, you get splendid views. Unfortunately the weather was not so good while we were there, so we skipped that. We got to Malpensa in about an hour, including the time to fill up the fuel tank. If you want more info, just e-mail me.
