Planning a trip next year to Southern Italy. Would like to base out of 1 area. We are looking for self catering accommodation. All suggestions appreciated
You might Google "vrbo basilicata." I've been to Matera and loved it. It was on a RS tour; we slept in a cave! There is also regular housing. You may want to check on availability of public transit if you aren't renting a car. Summers in that region are hot, I'm told.
Here's something on my wish list:
I haven't been good enough lately to be worthy, but I hope you can make it happen.
Beautiful areas! Basilicata is more compact, so easier to find a base there. Will you have a car? Matera is a great choice; for Calabria I like Tropea, near the toe of the boot.
Will have a car. Tropea looks wonderful.
If you need a hotel in Tropea, I know one with free parking, wifi, breakfast just a block from one of the main piazze. It's a historic home turned hotel, nice courtyard garden, and they accept the Discover card (rare in my experience).
