We are going to Tuscany for a week in November. I am thinking of staying in one place for a few days and then another town for the rest of the time. So what towns would you recommend staying in? Thanks Jennifer
One of my very favorite small towns in Tuscany is Loro Ciuffenna. I had the luck of staying there while on the Village Italy Trip RS trip..... We stayed at Residence la Ferriera. Each room is a small apartment with several rooms, kitchen, swimming pool, the town is just wonderful and I did a bit of hiking around the
area.
You live in Sicily, so I presume you are driving your own car and not relying on public transport. If you choose a town between Florence and Siena, along the "Autopalio" freeway (Raccordo Firenze-Siena) you can pretty much use that location to visit everything in Tuscany, without having to change locations at all. That area is central to all of Tuscany. Anything between those two big cities works. Near Florence Impruneta is nice. But also San Casciano, Mercatale, San Donato in Collina.
In the province of Siena, you might want to look into the area near Colle Val D'elsa and Monteriggioni, both very cute towns. Poggibonsi is also good, but slightly bigger and more industrialized (factories and warehouses). The Chianti area is a popular one, but the roads there are less conducive to high speed, therefore if you go on a day trip, it might take you a little longer to get back to the Chianti. Stay along the freeway not too far from the entrances.
