base in Milan or Lake Como?

Hello,
We will be flying into Milan early afternoon on April 16 and have 3 nights to spend in Milan and/or Lake Como before going on to Venice. Trying to decide whether to stay in Milan and day trip to Lake Como, stay in Lake Como and day trip to Milan, or split the nights between the 2. Our last full day will be a Monday which I know is not a good day for sights in Milan. There is apparently also a convention lasting through the weekend. And unsure what to expect for weather in Lake Como if that matters. Any thoughts/suggestions would be helpful!

My daughter and I stayed in Milan for 3 nights and did day trips out of Milan to Verona and Lake Garda.
We wished we had our base camp in Lake Garda. Take a look and see what you think.

Did you price hotels in Milan? If, as you say there is a large convention or trade fare, that will boost hotel rates.

I will look into Lake Garda. Thank you!

I had checked hotels in Milan. The B & B where I had wanted to stay has more than doubled the rate due to the conference. That is really what made me consider staying in Lake Como. I also had checked of couple hotels in Milan. A couple were already full, a couple weren't yet taking reservations for April. I did get a quote from Lancaster Hotel for a double room for 135 Euro.

I have been to Milan, Venice and Verona. I am currently planning a trip for next year to Lake Como. If you want museums and historical sites, I would stay longer in Milan. If you want scenery and small villages, I would go to Lake Como. If you want to see it all, do Milan then Lake Como then Verona (1 night each) by train and then go to Venice!!!

We much preferred Lake Como to Milan. We spent two nights in Bellagio and two nights in Milan. We found the two nights in Milan were too much for us. (One would have been better.) We are outdoors people, so Lake Como was our kind of place :)
