We are traveling to Puglia in September. I originally planned to stay for a few nights in Alberobello & day trip from there to Locorotondo & Martina Franca. However in researching it seems that Martina Franca may have a bit more to offer, especially in the evening & has good transportation options for day trips to Alberobello & Locorotondo. If anyone has stayed in both towns, do you have any advice? I have reservations in both places & need help deciding. Thanks so much.
In planning a trip to Puglia for this fall, outside of Bari I found Monopoli has the best transit connections because it’s on the Bari-Monopoli-Lecce train line and also has frequent bus services. Between Alberobello and Martina Franca. you will be better off in Martina Franca because it has more frequent bus & train service and, with 5 times more residents than Alberobello, just has more happening. Locorotondo, Ceglie Messapica, Cisternino and Ostuni are all interesting towns close to Martina Franca.
Our looooooooooong TR below will likely offer some answers and ideas. Sorry, no fotos yet.

I think it really depends on what you want. Alberobello gets a lot of midday visitors, but then you'd have mornings and evenings. There are plenty of restaurants for just a few days. If you can do any day trip from there that you would want to do from MF, then it makes equal sense. If memory serves, both are on the train line. For places so close together, I let the accommodations make the decision for me, so if you see one you like better, take it.
