BARI - Transportation from Civitavecchia port to Bari, Italy and hotel suggestions

Hi,

I would appreciate any recommendations on how to get from Civitavecchia port to Bari, Italy, by public transportation for 2 in early June. Can it be done in a day if I left Civitavecchia by 11am? It will be our first time to Puglia and will try to rent a car to see the region for 7 nights then fly back to the US from Bari airport.
We also will divide our stay at hotels/inns between Bari and Lecce as the base. Do you have any hotel favorites in Bari and Lecce city center?

Thanks in advance for your help.

By train from Civitavecchia to Rome Termini. Trains go from C to Rome roughly every half hour, then there are frequent services to Bari by both Trenitalia and Italio train services. Train to Rome is just over an hour and to Bari is 4-5 hours. Allow time in Rome to purchase some food at the station.

Check schedules on the Trenitalia website. I think you can get here by evening. There are a few car rental agencies in Bari near the train station (we used Hertz)--outside the ZTL and easy to get on the road out of town.
In Lecce, I adore Roof Barocco Suites.

Trenitalia shows a departure from Civitavecchia, with a change at Rome, getting you to Bari Centrale at 17:14.

On Italo, you can book a 9:58 Trenitalia from Civitzvecchia to Rome and Italo train from there to Bari, arriving at 16:10.

Thanks so much for your quick replies. I will check the Trenitalia website.

Valadelphia, how did you book Roof Barocco Suites?

What were your favorite top 3 towns in Puglia? I have not booked any tours or set the the itinerary yet.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

I used the website or Booking.com, can't recall.

Lecce, the Itria Valley, and somewhere coastal would be my recs.

Thank you. I was able to reach Roof Barocco via email and she replied quickly with helpful suggestions.

I am changing my itinerary to stay 3 nights in Valle d’itria and 4-5 nights in Lecce as the 2 bases.

Is Trenitalia better than Italo in terms of customer service and reliability?

Trenitalia and Italotren are the two main providers and I have not really heard anything negative about either, just chose based on schedule and price.
Enjoy--I am reminiscing about sitting on the roof deck at Barocco Suites just watching the swallows swoop overhead...
