Bari to Tuscany

HI! My friend and I are planning on driving from Bari to Tuscany over the course of a few days.....I think she would like to see Rome, but I've driven in Rome before and I'm not a fan. Where would you suggest we we stay that is close enough to take a train in the for the day? We're on a budget, so we would preferably like to stay where there is free parking and/or close to public transport.

Thank you for all your help!

In Rome itself or in another town nearby?

If in Rome, there are plenty of hotels with parking, just check with Booking.com or any website.
If you want to stay out town you might consider Tivoli or Tivoli Terme. From Tivoli Terme you can take the train to Rome and be there in 30 min. Tivoli Terme is along the freeway between Bari and Tuscany.

Hi Irving! Oh well we're just going to tootle around in Tuscany, probably go to San Gimignano, maybe Arezzo, Lucca. We will end up in Siena where I'm going to leave the car and hop on the train to Vicenza. I'd like to stop in Rome on our way through, but not sure where it is convenient to get on the train for a day trip to Rome. I would appreciate any suggestions or recommendations!

Thank you Roberto, I will check out Tivole Terme that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'd rather not drive in Rome; I did it a few years ago and I didn't care for it. Thank you so much for your suggestion!

After reading Roberto’s post I realized I misinterpreted what you asked.
Tivoli is a direct 45-minute train ride from Rome which is perfect for what you’re trying to do. A lot of people picnic at the Villa d’Este and when you see it, you’ll know why. Hadrian’s Villa is also in Tivoli and that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
