Bari to Alberobello

Has anyone taken public transport to see the trulli houses from Bari? When I started research last year there was a direct train - now there isn’t. Seeing the houses was my main focus of going to Bari after the RS tour ending in Dubrovnik. Any other recommendations from Bari? Thanks.

There is a small local train from Bari to Alberobello: https://www.fseonline.it/ The station is located near Bari Centrale. You would need to look for the signs saying Ferrovie del Sud Est. Their website is in Italian, but you should be able to figure it out easily.

If you make it to Alberobello, look for the belvedere which looks out over the town. It's a great view of the trulli. You will find images online if you do a search for it. Buon viaggio!

I will look for the Belvedere. I plan to visit most of the day taking photos, exploring and of course eating! Thanks everyone!

There are no FSE trains to Alberobello. The company has been acquired by Trenitalia who has immediately started working on the railway from Bari to Taranto via Putignano, Martina Franca and Alberobello.

Click on the link posted at #4, make a search and you will be redirected to Trenitalia's search page. You'll see no trains, only buses departing from Largo Sorrentino, the bus stop behind Bari Centrale railway station.

Thanks Dario. I discovered that yesterday when I tried the website. If there isn’t a reasonable schedule by bus, is the Bari area (Lecce, Matero) worth the trip? I could always fly from Dubrovnik to Rome and eliminate the ferry and train ride to Rome. I would appreciate your suggestions.

I don't know if 3 direct buses a day plus some with a transfer are ok for you or not.

Lecce is one one of the Europen "Baroque cities". Matera is the Europen Capital of Culture in 2019 and an Unesco site because of the caves. It really depends on your interests. I assume everyone would enjoy at least a 1 day stop in Matera while going to Rome.
There are trains from Bari To Matera.
