Bari or Trani

Just looking for an opinion on these two towns. We will be landing in Bari after a long flight from the US. We will be spending 10 days in the region and looking to spend the first two nights in Bari or Trani before heading south. Originally, we were staying in Bari and then going to Martina Franca. Now we have friends who will be in Trani (I know the wrong direction) so can't decide which place to stay. Seeing friends would be great but want to enjoy the "best" town. We will have a rental car and there does not seem to be much difference in time to either place.

We enjoyed all of our four nights in Trani, especially the cathedral by the sea and the fishing boats. Bari was fine as a day trip from Trani. The two are very close to each other, so you are not going far out of your way if you are then heading south.

We did not visit Trani when we were in Puglia last March, but we did spend a night in Bari and found nothing to draw us back.
