Sorry for such a broad question. Does anyone have ideas, suggestions (even a 'not worth it' one) about a Naples - Bari - Lecce trip? I've been to Naples already so I know that I liked it. grazie millie!
Unfortunately, I haven't made it to Bari yet, but I think Lecce is lovely. I used it as my base for Puglia in 2015. The tourist office in Lecce has a good walking tour. I'm assuming you'll be driving, but in case you're not, the T.O. also coordinates van trips to a lot of the smaller towns in the vicinity. They allow you to get a quick look at a lot of different places on a single day, which you cannot do by public transportation.
Matera (Basilicata) is fascinating. Try to stop there for a couple of nights on your way to or from Bari/Lecce.
Another vote for Matera. 2 or 3 nights there would be very nice!
We loved staying in Old Town Bari as it really showed us Italian life, love of tradition, food and family. There are many B&Bs, restaurants and shops, yet the area is small - only about 2 miles square. Alberobello is fascinating, although much commercialized, and well worth a walk through. The Itria Valley is a beautiful and easy, peaceful drive. Matera is a world unto itself and not to be missed, in my opinion. We spent a day driving all along the coast of the boot from Ostuni, to Otranto, and back up to Gallipoli and places all in between that I can't remember the names of. It was lovely.
