We would like to travel to Bari and the Puglia region. Does anyone have any suggestions for how a family of eight to best visit this area for three to four days.
My family of 4 traveled to Puglia in August 07 and had a wonderful time. We stayed at Agriturismo Montepaolo which we all loved. it is in Conversano and we used it as a base to visit many towns in the area. Money was def a factor for us and this was the most reasonable and had everything we wanted. We had a lovely large room with a double bed, single and daybed. Perfect for our teens. We were there in the middle of a heat wave. Our room had an overhead paddle fan so we were quite comfortable and there was a lovely pool. The place was simple but spotless. the owners are there most of the time. Breakfasts were ample with always a homemade cake and we took 2 of our dinners there and they were delicious. We stayed for 5 days.
Donald, I spent a week touring Puglia and of course fell in love with it. Dependent on the interests of your family, there are beaches, caves, castles galore, trulli, fabulous food, shepherds, lovely people and quiet back roads (in an unmaintained state unfortunately) for slow travel. Nothing is too far away. I can offer further details if you wish. cheers, Pat
Hello Pat, Thank you for your reply. My wife's father was born in Noicattaro which is just a short distance from Bari. She wants to visit the town where he lived and research her heritage. What kind of accommodations did you have and where? We will need at least three bedrooms for there will be five adults and four children (ages 5 to 11). We are studying Italian as we imagine that English may not be too prevalent. Was the language an issue for you? Any insighte on the area would be appreciated. Did you have a rental car? We will probalbly stay in this region three or four days before going to Rome. Don and Annette Winterich
