Barcelona to either Rome or Florence

Our daughter is in Barcelona and we will be in Rome and Florence. She would like to visit us in one of those cities. Is train travel recommended for this? How would we go about looking into this. THanks.

Don't even attempt the rail option.
It's much faster for me to go from San Francisco to Florence than to take a train from Barcelona to Florence.
You have several cheaper and faster flights that connect Barcelona to either Rome or Florence (or even Pisa, which is only 1.5 hours from Florence). Vueling flies from BCN to FLR (or PSA) and back. Lots of more options are available from BCN to FCO, including non stops with Alitalia, Ryanair and Vueling.

rome2rio.com is an excellent site for considering various options on how to get from Point A to Point B.
