Has anyone ever been to the Banfi Winery by bus. We have a connection to get us in for free and are wondering if anyone has ever taken a bus there. From the looks of the google map it shows bus stops all along the way. We are not at all interested in renting a car. If we can't take the bus we will hire a taxi.

Curious where you will get a taxi. There are none in Montalcino and I have never seen one in Buonconvento. There are private car and drivers for hire.
Good point! We may have to rely on the kindness of the Banfi people to get us there or tell us how we can get there.

The Castello Banfi tour and tasting are free; at least it was a couple years ago. Of course lodging and lunch are another story as well as purchasing wine. Their website mentions private transportation options. http://www.castellobanfi.com/tour/transportation.php
Looks like the private buses leave from Florence and Siena. We will be in Montalcino and there are only two of us and the transportation we have looked into seems to be for groups, or extremely expensive for two. We are on a budget and it is the lunch that we are being treated to, we assumed the tour was free. We did find a bus that goes there from Montalcino but it looks like it just takes the workers there since one leaves at 6:30 and one at 7:30. They do come back more often so it looks like if we can hire a driver to get us there we can get back on the bus.

We toured Banfi last May(had a car) and called ahead to reserve--about 20 people were in the group and most had arranged a van and driver. Many had the lunch and they said it was very good. Perhaps you can find a local in Montalcino to drive you to Banfi. Good luck--Banfi is huge--thousands of acres and the tour is great.
