Has anyone been to this town in Tuscany and gone in the hot springs?
It’s not a town, just the site of the ancient baths
It’s really beautiful, we have stopped several times but never actually used the facilities -I think there’s just one spa hotel there and I believe you would need reservations
You can walk along the stream and stick your feet in the water
You can’t really use the large main bath
Bagno Vignoni is a lovely spot to see the hot springs in the middle of the village and watch the pool bubble up. There were a couple of places we could have had lunch, which I wish we had done. Instead we drove through the Val d’orchia to Bagni San Fillipo, where there were minimal food options. You took a moderate hike down to the natural pools in the thermal springs as they cascaded down the hill side. There was no charge for this experience, which was one of those “pinch me - am I really doing this?” experiences. I did not feel comfortable leaving our things unattended, so we took turns going into the wonderfully warm pools. There were no changing rooms, but there was a bathroom at the small snack shop. I did a masterful job of changing out of my wet suit under my sundress by our car!
We chose the more natural option, but for a more relaxing, pampered day the Terme di Chianciano is a spa with thermal pools where you can purchase 4 hour or all- day passes. It is about 15 minutes south of Montepulciano.
