Has anyone visited Bagni di Lucca, and would they care to weigh in? On the map, it looks like strolling along the river valley from town to town could be very enjoyable.
Excellent day trip.
But where will you be coming from?
Will you have a car?
Also consider taking the Lucca-Aulla train on the scenic railway. There is a station at Bagni di Lucca, although not exactly in the town (about 2.5 miles away) and I'm not sure about the availability of taxi/bus at the station to take you to the town. I'm sure there is a bus, not sure how frequent.
Thanks, Roberto! I was thinking of taking the train from Lucca to the station that's called Bagni di Lucca, but appears to be in Val Fegana, then walking to Bagni di Lucca along the river, if it's walkable.
The station is actually in FORNOLI.
If you don't mind a one hour walk each way, of course it's walkable.
If you don't feel like walking 2.5 miles, there is also a bus.
Download the PDF timetable for line no. E10

The train station stop is called STAZIONE F.S. FORNOLI
(FS stands for Ferrovie dello Stato, or State Railways, the parent company of Trenitalia)
I actually prefer Barga just a little further up the road from Bagni di Lucca as a day trip from Lucca. The Antica Locanda di Sesto is a great place to stop for a long lunch along the way. If you could rent a car for the day, it is a nice and easy drive from Lucca. That way you could see both towns. Enjoy!
Thanks for the suggestions!
