We will be stopping in Pisa just long enough to see the leaning tower. Is there baggage storage in or near the train station. And are there busses from the station to the tower?

Yes - there is storage at Pisa Centrale and you can take a bus (about 8-10 minutes) to the Field of Miracles. This link will show you all the train stations in Itlay that have "Left Luggage:" http://tinyurl.com/Left-Luggage
