baggage storage at Pisa train station

We are traveling from Florence to Cinque Terre by train. My husband has not been to Pisa so we would like to stop for a few hours then continue on our way. Is there luggage storage at the Pisa station, how secure is it and would you do this if it were you? thank-you

Amy, there is a tremendous staffed baggage storage place at the Pisa train station. We have used it. With your back to the station and your front to Track #1, turn left and go down almost to the end of the buildings. Turn left between the last two buildings and walk towards the building in the rear right. You will see a sign that says baggage storage in Italian (which I forget). The staff there will store your baggage behind the counter AND will ask for your passport to photocopy your picture. A piece of paper with your picture will be placed with your luggage. Then, when you return, you have to show your passport to get your luggage back. 3Euros per bag. Works great.

I've been reading that there is a train station that is actually closer to the tower and other sights than the main Pisa station. This sounds like it would cut the walking time, but I am not sure if there is a baggage check at that station.

I really don't think that there is a train station closer to the tower than the Pisa Centrale station. It is a 30-40 minute walk to the tower. And, a 30-40 minute walk back. But, there is also a very good bus system that has a stop in front of the train station and at a couple of locations next to the tower and historical grounds. We chose to walk and we had lunch on the way back to the train.

The Pisa S. Rossore train station is closer to the Tower. There is a small bag check near the museum.

Do you know if the train from Florence comes into the Rossore station and have you used their baggage check? Do you feel it is secure? thanks so much!

we did it a month ago. there is luggage storage at the pisa train station. the tower was only a 20 -25 minute walk from the train station. looking at the station from the tracks, go to your right and you will see the sign for luggage storage. piece of cake. good luck :):):)

Trains from Florence generally only come into Pisa Centrale....although a couple scattered through the day may continue on to San Rossore. Since the difference in the walk to the tower is only a few hundred meters, and since there's no left luggage at San Rossore, it's probably not worth it.

thank-you all so much for your help! I think we will take your advice and use the main station and check our bags. You've made it clear out of the muddle I was in before.

We are landing in Pisa in May and want to know if this information about the secure luggage storage at the Pisa train station (Central) is still recommended. The information that responded to this question above is now 2 years old. Thank you.

On the Trenitalia site it shows the serveices at each station in Tuscany.
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ff85ee71509da110VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD Held Luggage is available only at Pisa Centrale. It looks like all the regional trains stop at both the centrale as well as Pisa S. Rossore. Pisa S. Rossore seems to be closer. google maps will show bus route from Pisa Centrale to Duomo if you want to leave your luggage and take the bus there. Have fun.

We are planning on using the left luggage storage at both Pisa Centrale and Padua. Does anyone know if they have bag size restrictions? We will have 4 carry-on size roller suitcases to store and want to be sure they don't just accept small bags/backpacks etc... Thanks for your help! Mary
