Baggage on Amalfi Coast Bus and Storage in Positano

Can you take baggage (1 carry on) on the Amalfi Coast buses? Does anyone know if you can store a bag in Postiano for a few hours? There is no mention of this in the RS 2011 Italy book that I can find. I'll be there in mid-March. As always, thanks for any help you can give me!

Our experience with Italian buses in general is that a standard carryon size bag would have to be stored under the bus. A small day bag will fit on the overhead rack but it is very small. Some bus stations will have a left luggage area but do not know about Postiano.

The big SITA buses between Sorrento/Positano/Praiano/Amalfi and between Amalfi/Minori/Maiori/Cetara/Salerno have large underfloor luggage compartments which can accommodate very large suitcases. The small SITA bus between Amalfi and Ravello has much more limited space for luggage (carry ons would be fine).

Having taken several bus trips in Italy (instead of the train) I can tell you that a normal carry on size you would take on board an airplane will not be allowed on the bus. You can take a handbag/backpack on the bus with you, there is a really small storage area over your seat, or you can place it under the seat in front of you. Our luggage under the bus has been completely safe, While I worried that someone getting off would help themselves to our luggage, we've not had that problem in 3-4 bus trips. I do try to sit in a seat right above where I've placed my luggage, but once they swing the doors open to the luggage compartment, the view is blocked. Not sure about luggage storage..

There is no bus station in Positano. The SITA bus lets out at two roadside stops.

Positano has 2 bus stops but no bus station. Use the stop at the bottom of town (at Via Colombo), as it's a very long and steep walk down and back up from the stop at the top of town. I don't recall seeing any place that officially stores bags, but there are several hotels and shops along Via Colombo. One of them may be willing to store your bags for a couple of hours, especially if you offer to pay them a modest fee.

If you eat lunch at a restaurant, you may be able to leave your luggage there while you visit the town.

Thanks again everyone for all the helpful info and suggestions. I have a better idea now how to make this work.
