Rick's book gives instructions on how to check your bag before entering San Marco. I don't have the book in front of me so can't give an exact quote, but he says something like, "You can check your bag for an hour." I'd like to see the interior of the church, as well as the museum upstairs, and it sounds like that will probably take longer than an hour. So, what happens if you don't get back to the bag-check place to retrieve your bag within sixty minutes?
I dont think it will be a problem - they probably just dont want people to leave it all day.
My experience log was that they did not log a time in or out, just gave you a tag at check-in, handed over the bag at check out. You should be fine, to be honest, I do not remember a time limit from Rick's book or posted or communicated at the check-in.
Hi Teresa,
It's about 5EUR to store a bag at the train station if you're worried, or don't want to be concerned about it. =)
Thanks, all. I just wanted to be sure that they wouldn't toss my bag into the canal. ;-)
You didn't directly ask about this, but nobody is mentioning the coolest thing about this bag check. It allows you to go to the very front of the line into St. Mark's, regardless of how long the line is. It really works. You check the bag in this tiny church down an alley next to St. Mark's, they give you a receipt, and then you just walk right up to where the security guy is checking people through the line, show him the receipt and he waves you right in.
Yeah, as much as I dislike the thought of checking my bag (I know it's safe and all that, still ...), the ability to skip the line sounds pretty spiffy!
That tip about the bag check made buying Rick's Venice book worth it all by itself! It was so awesome!
