In Rick's book, he says that by the Basilica, one can check in their bags/backpacks for 1 hour. But what if I do not feel that will be enough time? What happens if I go over 1 hour? Or is there somewhere else I can check my bags?

It's a guideline, Alan. I wouldn't leave my bag there all day, but 1 1/2- 2 hours is fine from what I can tell. I know we left our over an hour.

I agree with Laurel. BTW, I have fairly recently read that they may be "cracking down" on people abusing the system who are just checking tiny daypacks or other allowable bags just in order to skip the line. I suggest that you leave proper bags or normal backpacks.

Not anything to do with a bag, but we downloaded Rick's 'tour' of San Marco for our ipod - was quite interesting and I know we noticed lots of tiny details we would have overlooked...also used his St Marks Sq tour...you may want to check those out if you haven't already.
