Backup Plan for April ferry trip to Lipari From Milazzo-More Palermo, Cefalu, Other?

I currently have a 3-4 night stay in Lipari the second week of April 2027 in my itinerary, and I would like to have a backup plan for Lipari in the event we are unlucky with the weather or there was a mechanical issue with the ferry. We had a ferry cancellation we had to deal with on our departure day when we were leaving the Isle of Mull in Scotland, so we are unfortunately familiar with the need for a backup plan for ferries (a plan which we did not have). We will be taking a train from Naples to Milazzo, then transferring to the ferry from the train station by taxi. Since our next stop after Lipari is Palermo, the easiest backup plan would be to add those nights to our stay in Palermo, or possibly Cefalu, which is one of the potential day trips on our list. The Palermo stay is now 4 nights, but I keep running across new (to me) information regarding Palermo that suggests that 3 more nights in Palermo is not wasted time. We were not planning to rent a car or hire a driver at this point in the trip (that occurs after we leave Palermo for a road trip to Trapani, Agrigento, Ragusa and ending in Ortigia), so our backup options would be limited to destinations we can reach by train or bus from Milazzo (if the ferry is cancelled after we arrive in Milazzo) or train from Naples (if the ferry is cancelled before we leave Naples). Cefalu is likely to not be very pleasant if the weather is bad enough to cancel the ferries, so Palermo seems like the best choice until such time as I find a better alternative.
