Babymoon trip to Rome and ??

Husband and I were looking to take a trip to Italy before baby comes in September! I will be about 5-6 months along in May and we'd like to see Rome and another city (didn't want to make it too busy in case I am tired) I really love the idea of getting out of the big city and seeing beautiful countryside while also doing a cooking class :) Any tips of where to go along with Rome??

Trip would probably be about 7-8 days long. We are coming from east coast of US.

Thanks!!

We really enjoyed our day of cooking in Rome with Chef Andrea at cookingclassesinrome.com

Here's some nearby day-trip options that you could explore:
Orvieto - 1 hour train from Rome
Tivoli - 1 hour subway/train from Rome
Ostia Antica is very interesting (not for beautiful countryside) & only a 30-minute tram from central Rome

You might consider a few days in Sorrento. It is lovely in its own right and offers many options for touring the coast if you choose...Capri, Pompeii, and Positano, among others. It offers beautiful countryside and seashore. Also easy travel to and from Rome.

Florence has good transportation connections and lots to do. Assisi, or Spello, near Assisi, is a small town.

Nearer to Rome are the Castelli Romani, any one of them would be a good place to spend a few days. Bolsena, on a volcanic lakeside, has a small town feel with a beach, a castle, and the best gelato shop on via Santa Cristina.

Consider a day trip out to Ostia Antica just outside Rome. It is the original site of Rome and is quite a different change of pace. You can get there on public transportation quickly and cheaply. Google it and see what you think. It is closed either Sunday or Monday -- can't remember which. TC
