My husband and I who will be first time travelers to Rome, are looking for a great place to spend a "gap" night between the end of a tour and our stay at a Rick Steves recommended property. We were able to confirm two nights at the Arco dei Tolomei but the third night was unavailable. Our tour ends near Vatican City. Thanks so much

Have you considered staying an additional night at the tour hotel? Often times you don't even have to change rooms.

Yes, that was my first thought and when I checked into it, the room would have been nearly $400 just for the one night. A little steep and more expensive than the place we have booked for our last two nights!

Since your hotel is in Trastevere, consider Hotel Santa Maria which is on a quiet street. It may have the feel you're looking for and you could walk from there to your final hotel.
