B & B or apt. in Rome? Tour guide?

Senior couple, age 71 and 63, making first trip to Rome in October for 4-5 nights prior to cruise back to USA. Need advice on a reasonably priced B & B or apartment. Also, since Ron in Rome is no longer in business, would appreciate recommendations on a personal guide. We are active but cannot do a huge amount of walking. What do you experienced travelers recommend? Thanks!

We're staying at Navona Garden Suites, which is on the first floor. http://navonagardensuites.com/ Also considered Best Pantheon Bed and Breakfast http://www.bestbb.it/ and Baldassini Bed and Breakfast http://www.baldassinibeb.it/eng/index.html An apartment which is highly recommended also is Palazzo Olivia http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/en/apartments-rome/rome-apartments.php
Check all of your options out on Tripadvisor.com to see what other travelers think of the place. I've spent more time researching than I'll be spending in Rome! Have fun!

What types of tours are you interested in? You can book a tour of the vatican museums directly through them at: http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do There are several tour companies that do tours of the city. You might consider taking the HO/HO bus to get around the city and close to most sites. http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do If you want a tour guide you can try Context or viator. Viator is a tour consolidator and don't actually give any tours but they have several companies they work with. You might also want to take a look at the romapass. It's a discount pass for the museums and sites of Rome. It does not work at the Vatican but you can find the lists of sites covered on the romapass site. http://www.romapass.it/english/index.html Donna

Hi Ron. As the other poster suggested, Palazzo Olivia apartments are great. Stayed there in Sept '09 & really enjoyed it. The location is perfect & the apartment building has an elevator which is not very common for apartment buildings. The apartment itself had A/C & ceiling fans and was clean and quiet. You can read their reviews on Trip Advisor. Have a great trip.

I'll second the recommendation for Palazzo Olivia having stayed there last October. They have an elevator, which is nice. As to guides, Francesca Caruso can tailor a tour to your activity level and preferences. We took her tour of the Colosseo, Palatino and Foro Romano. She is one of Rick Steves' recommended guides and our experience with her was fantastic. Contact her at [email protected].
