I am trying to decide between accommodation I have found in Sorrento or accommodation recommended in Piano di Sorrento . The latter Looks lovely but is it too far out of town? anyone know the area well?

I haven't been to either place, but am planning to sty in Sorrento next month. I am staying at the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel, which I hear is more like a B&B than a hostel. It has come highly recommended.

I like the look of La Magnolia in town but we have had the Villa Maresco recommended in Piano di Sorrento which is beautiful. we want to go to Capri and Pompeii and have 4 nights in Sorrento all up. I am sure both would be lovely but hope it is not too difficult to get in to Sorrento. Good luck with your trip, we do not go until October. Cheers

If you want to step out from your hotel in Sorrento and just walk in the evening, then stay in the main part. While any part is not that far away, you are talking about taking a bus otherwise. We stayed on the main drag and would go out for a walk in the evening after a day of Pompeii or Amalfi or Naples. Then we'd go back to the hotel for a bit, freshen up, and go out for dinner. Much more convenient if you are where the shops and tourist area is.
