B & B in Rome

Can anyone recommend a good value B & B in Rome that is within walking distance to the major sites or the Metro?

We stayed at The Beehive and recommend it. Check out Ricks' books for full details including the info about the B & B booking service that they have.

Breakfast is not included but can be purchased at their small cafe.

We stayed there in Sept '07 and walked to all of the sites (Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Forum, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Borghese, Vatican) as well as a lot of other walking-while-disoriented.

You are not going to find many true B&Bs in Rome. You will find a lot of small hotels with very good breakfasts. All major sites are generally in walking distance if walking distance is defined as within 3 or 4 miles. The metro in Rome is not real convenient as it skirts the major sites. Bus are better. We like Hotel Aberdeen, Sonya, and Contilla which are good value by our standards.

Another vote for the Nicolas Inn...clean, convenient, English-speaking hosts. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We stayed in a convent called il Rosario - I believe it is recommended in one of RS books. The breakfast there was great, room was clean and spacious with en suite bathroom/shower. Rate was amazing about 120 usd for a famly of three. It was walking distance to Trajan Market, Colloseum, Forum, etc. No ac but we were there during mid-June and found it very cool with the tile floor, fan, and windows. They even have a computer room with internet access and printer so I was able to print tickets. The Dominican Sisters were very accomodaing though most speak Italian and French it was no problem to communicate in broken Italian/English. In terms of distance you can walk to other things like Via Del Corso area, Spanish Steps, fountains, etc., but major streets and not really set for walking. We did it one day but after took other transportation. There is an 11:30pm curfew but by then we were exausted anyway. If you want more details let me know but we would definitely return. Your best rates/food/cleanliness will likely come from a convent.
Have a great trip! michelle

We stayed at Gulliver's Lodge and really enjoyed it. It's close to the main Termini and the Metro and we walked to most all major sites. It's in a very secure building and the rooms are spacious, secure, and breakfast is enough food for lunch too. The owner is kind and will take the time to sit down with you to review a map of Rome and all the sites you wish to visit.
