My husband and I will be in Florence and Rome this April. We are looking for recommendations for a nice, clean place to stay that is under 100 EUROS a night, and preferrably provides breakfast. Thank you for your input!
For Florence definitely book the Residenza Il Villino as fast as you can. For Rome - sorry I don't have any suggestions.
It might be a bit bigger than you wanted, but the Villa Azalee in Florence is a fantastic place to stay. All the charm of a B&B, but the amenities of a hotel. It is within walking distance of the main train station, and we walked from there to ALL of the great sites of Florence. There are great restaurants within walking distance and the place exudes charm. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens despite its locatin on a busy street. I would never stay anywhere else in Florence!!
I have been to Florence 2 different times in the past couple years. I stayed at a lovely B&B owned by the sweetest Italian woman. The breakfast was wonderful and the the center of Florance is a short bus ride away. I felt totally safe and it was so quiet there. I can't say enough about this villa. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are very nice.
here is the website

Just cut and paste it on the internet
In Rome id suggest Residence Adler or Hotel Italia both in Steves book. They are a little over 100 but both are well located, well run and very nice places.
The Beehive in Rome near Termini station has been recommended my travelers here. However, you asked about breakfasts and it is the impression of many American travelers that Italian hotel breakfasts are not substantial by American standards or compared to countries like England.
