Avoiding the dreaded ZTL

It's been a 18 months since our last trip to Italy, so we apparently were successful in avoiding any ZTL (thanks the helpline). So in preparation for our trip in April, we will be driving Tuscany and would just like to know ahead of time if there is a ZTL in any of the below towns. Better to know in advance so we park as we approach these towns.
Luccs, Voltera, San Gimignano, Montalcino (spending 2 nights), Pienza, Orvieto, Bagnoregio.

Been to most but it's been a few years so I'll only comment on the most recent: Montalcino and Pienza. I was able to drive up and park right outside the walls. Very easy. I didn't notice any ZTLs as it was not necessary to drive in town. Montalcino might have the highest concentration of great wine/food in the world. Have a great time!

They all have areas where traffic or parking may be limited. However they are very small therefore all you have to do is park outside the city walls and walk in. Just keep an eye for the road sign indicating prohibited access to vehicles and the hours when it's effective. The road sign doesn't exist in America a but it's easy to spot. It's a round sign, white in the inside with a red border. See below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Italian_traffic_signs_-_divieto_di_transito.svg

We were in Volterra, San Gimignano and Bagnoregio this past December. The first two have ZTLs, but they are clearly marked with signs, and cameras. However, even without signs I found it very easy to see since the road suddenly turned very narrow, and you could see the town wall. We were in Bagnoregio, but only to drive to the walkway to Civita........which you couldn't drive into even by mistake! The only caveat to my experience is there are several entrances to these towns. The one you use might not be the one we used.

Much of Montalcino inside the walls is ZTL, but there's one route through town that's not. I used that route to get to/from my hotel on Via Soccorso Saloni. Consult your Montalcino hotel about whether you can get to the hotel (or close to off luggage) without violating a ZTL. As a general rule, streets inside city walls are ZTL while the streets outside the walls aren't. There are usually some places within the walls that aren't ZTL, but it's safest to stay outside the walls unless you're certain. Since Rick suggests driving through Bagnoregio to park near the bridge to Civita, it probably doesn't have ZTL. All of the other towns on your list definitely do.
