I am considering pre-booking tickets for St. Mark's Basilica online, because I've heard that this allows you to skip the line. Does anyone know if this is true?
Tickets? Never heard of them. Take a backpack, even if it's empty, and check it at the concert hall to the lest of San Marco. Then simply walk in the exit and enjoy! The claim check is your ticket through the back door. They'll tell you it's good for an hour but I don't see them time stamping your bag. Been doing this for a decade and it works every time - thank you RS!
It is true. Available from this website.
That entry reservation costs €2 per person age 6 or older. The lower part of the page is a different offer (tours for €20).
Eric is right, although the booking system does not operate over the winter months.
Just want to mention - we were there last Sept and the line was snaking halfway down SM Square...I kept track of how long it took us to get it and it was 15 min. So it does move at a fairly good pace...
I purchased an entry ticket. Rather inexpensive, and it did allow us to skip the line. The previous link posted is where I purchased it through. There really was no pre-purchased ticket line, so we just showed it to the guard at the front asking where we needed to go, and he just let us in.
Ok, thanks everyone! I had also read in RS about the backpack trick, but it was good to hear from someone who has tried it, that it works. I'm going to go that route.
