Venice Film Festival from Wednesday, August 31 and ends on Saturday, September 10
Why avoid?
I wouldn't miss a chance to see Ana De Armas e Penelope Cruz. They are both expected to appear on the red carpet.
I decided not to join the event because I decided to cut down on my traveling on private jets for environmental reasons (private jets contribute half of all of aviation's carbon emissions).
Considering today is August 29th, I'm going to guess most folks have already made their plans to visit, have their lodging booked and such, and will be fine. Besides, other than making it difficult to get a water taxi, why would one want to avoid Venice during the film festival?
Yup, plans made long ago for the two nights I’m spending in Venice at the end of the festival. Didn’t know it was on, but I booked accommodation far enough out to get a good location and a good price. Not partaking in any if the festival as there is nothing I want to see, but it wouldn’t make me avoid going to Venice.
Well, with all the people who take that advice, there's more room for the rest of us! ;))
We were in Venice during the film festival in 2018 and enjoyed the vibe. Would not have missed it. The highlight was a Lady Gaga sighting. https://ew.com/movies/lady-gaga-venice-boat-photos/
Oohhh… so excited! We will be there that weekend!
I will look at the film festival schedule- now that would be cool….
I hope I see Penelope Cruz @roberto da Firenze she’s my secret girl crush! (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) 😊

I think phred wants as many of us to stay away so it is not so crowded when he is there this week.
Being from L.A. phred probably lives surrounded by movie stars and producers and "I-am-an-actor-my-name-is" waiters etc. From his point of view being in Venice during the Film Festival would be "business as usual" even on holiday.
Or he is a movie star and wants all the speedboats for himself, who knows. He could be anyone.
And stay away the following week - Glass Week! So many of those shameless glass people wandering about! /s
Indeed I could be anyone, and might be.
I'm not trying to keep anyone from something they might want to see. it was just a general heads up because the place will be even busier than usual, hotels and restaurants fuller, places restricted or cordoned off.
Native New Yorkers know to avoid the East Side when the UN is in session, and it's not a great idea to be in Vienna or Switzerland if OPEC is having a meeting. That is all.
@phred
Thanks for the heads up! Normally I hate crowds so nice to hear the advice.
HOWEVER, we are going to be there anyway.. now I will put my Penelope Cruz goggles on to just get a glimpse of the goddess! 😊 promise to be calm and respectful and ignore her- but, will be a thrill! Silly me….
I love Venice so so much- but my business trips were always in December with the Christmas marts and very few people in the squares and alleys. I LOVE VENICE with a passion. When I hear negative feedback from people that went there during the summer and cruise ships, it was so completely opposite of the vibe that I felt.
This may be an interesting Venice trip during the film festival.. I hope my earlier memories of my favorite luxurious lady Venice won’t be tinged. We shall see.
But thanks again for the advice.

P.S. ( just for laughs) there was quite a bit of conversation of your secret LA identity. Can I have some fun with this and guess…
STANLEY TUCCI ( oh let me dream) 😉
Thanks Phred!
