autoeurope.com, car rental, Siena hotel

Has anyone used autoeurope.com? What were your impressions?

We are going to rent a car in Florence and drive around Tuscany, hit Siena (stay a night) and return the car in Florence. I do not want to make may way to the airport to pick up/drop off car. Any suggestions there?

I can get frequent flyer miles using the major US car rental shops and would prefer this route. I am seeing rate from them in the 200,00 euro range (expensive for 1 day/24 hour period)

Also, if any one has any good ideas on a place to stay in Florence and/or Siena (especially) I would appreciate that. budget is not an issue).

Thanks.

Last June we stayed at Hotel Palazzo Ravizza in Siena; it's right outside the walled city. The views from the rooms are amazing. Be sure to ask for rooms overlooking the garden; they are the ones with views. From the outside the hotel is not impressive, it's very nice inside. The rooms are spacious and the hotel staff is helpful. There are some fabulous restaurants in caves in Siena be sure to research before you go.

I have used autoeurope.com to both lease a car and rent a car (in Ireland). No problems. They were a pleasure to do business with. As noted, they are a consolidator and they will give prices for different companies.

We used Autoeurope last September & I am probably one of the only people that had a bad experience. I would still use them in the future but would re-confirm my reservation prior to leaving the U.S. I had reserved a car approx 6 mos in advance & they confirmed my reservation...then when I got to Orvieto to pick up my car, there was no record of a reservation for me & the car rental company didn't have any extra cars to rent. We had to train to Siena & then pick up a car the next day in Siena (AutoEurope couldn't find me a car anywhere in the area until 24 hrs later). It was very inconvenient & put a dent in my itinerary. I know things happen so I tried to "go with the flow". Moral of the story is to call just prior to leaving for Italy & re-confirm your reservation.

I would like to suggest a wonderful agriturismo just outside of Siena & since you will have a car, it's a perfect place to stay! It's called Agriturismo Marciano. Staying there was a true highlight of our trip. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor & if you stay there, definitely have one of the optional dinners; you will never have a better meal in Italy!! Have a great trip.

I have just returned from my trip to Florence and wanted to share information about car hire there. I like traveling by car and Brighton is pretty good city for this purpose, much better than Rome and some others European cities. I booked my vehicle online from www.Economybookings.com car hire and got quite nice deal for compact car. I suggest to book a car as much in advance as it's possible, especially for summer time, because the rates are remarkably lower. The service was fine, and there were no any try to charge me for flaws or scrapes existing already before as it sometimes may happen. In case there are some demages when you receive a car and they are not mentioned in your contract, it's better to take some pictures in case they try to blame you. I do it always with no matter which company I rent from.

If you need to rent the car in Florence, take a taxi to the Autoeurope pickup location on Via Gelsomino. It's a straight shoot out of town, no traffic.

If you have a rental car in Florence, and need overnight parking, you probably don't want to book accommodations in the historic center of Florence, because of the big fines in the ZTL's.
