Anyone out there that has used a ferry that will accept cars to Sicily?
We drove from Sicly to the mainland this past summer using the ferry crossing at Messina.
Vania, we took the ferry from the mainland to Messina. It works great.
Grazie Ron Grazie Karen for your reply. Might be bugging you for a few more tips, this is so fun and helpful.
Ciao, Vania
We missed the overnight auto ferry from Naples to Sicily/ Aeolian Islands. (the Aeolians off the NE tip of Sicily are simply awesome! We spent a few days there and then took the ferry to Milazzo Sicily, for the balance of our trip)
The ferry had small cabins for the overnight journey.
You can also take the ferry from Naples to Palermo and drive your car right on to the bottom level.
This is an overnight ferry, so reservations are a must. Usually leaves about 6PM and arrives around 6AM.
This is fun....we did it without a car, but had a cabin on board, dinner at the restaurant and a neat Italian experience.
Hi Vania. The ferries run frequently over to Messina. Look for signs advertising ferry tickets on your way down the Autostrada at the Autogrill stops. We bought our tickets ahead of time at one of these stops and it saved us some money and definitely some time at the ferry. Beware: there are 2 main ferry companies, follow the signs to the one you want.
