I will be arriving in Rome, early Monday May 1. I will only have the afternoon free. After that I meet up with my group. I will either be staying at the Le Meridien Visconti or Starhotels Michelangelo. Does either of those hotels have an authentic Italian restaurant that I can just walk to for lunch? First time traveling to Rome and no idea the lay of the land :)
Both hotels look to be near Vatican/St Peter’s but close to river
You can easily walk most anywhere from there
Do a search for restaurants near Piazza Navonna /Pantheon
There are many authentic restaurants in that area
Armando Al Pantheon is a favorite here
May 1 is a holiday in Italy
Consider making a reservation
As per Christine’s comment on the location of your hotel, it is in the Prati neighbourhood. We have stayed in that area our last 2 trips there and love it as it is filled with locals. Sorpasso is close to the Vatican and highly recommended by two local food experts, Elizabeth and Sophie Minchilli. We ate there twice last November. Another option is Il Matriciano which was also excellent for our lunch.
There are tons of choices within walking distance from both locations
perhaps if you're more specific about what you hope to eat (and hope to avoid)
I’m open to anything authentic, fresh, and particularly pasta. I want to avoid chain restaurants.
You won’t find many chain restaurants there if at all
Although, people in Italy seem to enjoy Eataly which is kinda odd
