Auschwitz to Italy

Is there a practical way to visit both places? Or would visiting Auschwitz take a major chunk of time? thank you.

Krakow is the natural base for seeing Auschwitz. While Auschwitz can be seen in one day, it seems like the effort made to get there (from anywhere) would be more worthwhile if you could spend some time in Krakow as well. Do you have an extra 3-4 days (or more) for seeing both? How would this fit into your overall travel plans? Obviously, the only practical way to get from Italy to Krakow is by plane, whether from the US or from Italy.

First, you should check what flights are available to Krakow from your chosen Italian city. It's probable that any flight will go through Warsaw first. Then once you get to Krakow, you'll have a bit of a journey (2 hours or so?) to get to Auschwitz.

If it is important to you to visit Auschwitz then you should. Fly into Krakow and stay there, going out to Auschwitz for the day. If you want to see more of Krakow then you can stay longer or you can catch a flight down to wherever it is you want to go in Italy. If you get out a map it is clear that they are not close to each other but planes make that irrelevant as long as you are willing to spend the money! It's about a 2 hour flight from Poland to Italy depending on where you are going.

Pleasantly surprised to find, through the usual source www.skyscanner.com, that RyanAir has direct flights from Krakow to Milan, Bologna, and Rome. About once daily to each, but not necessarily daily, and departure time may also affect your choice. Once in Italy, you can train to pretty much anywhere.
