August - Northeast Italy

Hello Fellow Travelers -

My wife and I are arriving to Slovenia from Budapest on/about 8/12. Upon arrival in Ljubljana we plan to rent a car, travel up to the Lake Bled region drive down the Vrisic Pass towards the Adriatic for a day or two.

It seems to be as easy to go to Trieste or Grado as it is to go to Piran.

We've not ventured to that part of the world before - does anyone have any insights as to the beaches/water/time of year between Piran/Trieste/Grado or some other spot (that we should consider)?

We need to return to Ljubljana 8/16ish for our flight back to the States 8/18.

Thanks in advance - Don

I haven't been to that region at all, but a friend of mine really liked Udine.

I don't know about beaches, but I do know that Trieste is a most agreeable city, especially around the Canal Grande and the Piazza Unità d'Italia.
Between Trieste and Udine you'll find the fortified town of Palmanova, founded by the Venetians and one of the oldest of its kind in Europe.
