August Honeymoon in Dolomites

My son & his bride-to-be want to spend 6 nights in Dolomites. They are avid hikers and love the outdoors. They are thinking of spending 3 nights in Ortesei & 3 nights in La Villa Alta Badia. We are looking at Villa Martha (LaGardena) & Hotel Antines (La Villa). Does this make sense? Also, do they need to rent a car and if not, what would they do for transportation?

Where are they flying in and out from?

They can rent a car, or take bus from/to rail stations and a bus between the two.

First: I would definitely rent a car. I am sure they could take buses but having a car is far more convenient.
It adds an expense of course and at the hotels you may have to pay for overnight parking as well.

If the place is for 2 bases instead of 1 ; I would choose Ortesi and then something further east than La Villa.
Cortina area for example to me makes more sense.
La Villa is less than 1 hours drive from Ortisei so I wouldn't see the point in packing up, checking out / checking in to a place less than 1 hour drive away.

Cortina is twice as far so can see that working better.
With those 2 bases over 6 nights they should be able to cover everything they want to see in the Dolomites provide they are not doing any multiple day hikes.

They are flying in from Venice. If you had to select only 1 place, would it be Ortisei or La Villa in Alta Badia. I appreciate any feedback that anyone has for us! Many thanks!

1 Place: Ortisei ; especially for a honeymoon stay. There will be much more to do and many of the hotels there are quite romantic.
We stayed at Hotel Genziana and it was very luxurious, romantic, white glove type service that far exceeded our expectations and would be a great Honeymoon hotel ; many perks provided with the normal room rate.

I see no issue with 2 places ; just that I would space them more apart like: Ortisei and Cortina.

Car will save them much time in travel to reach their hotel and also when departing to reach the airport and be very convenient to have while there. It is not required but I would say highly recommended.
