Has anyone with hearing aids used their own over the ear headphones? Our tour document says "If you wear a hearing aid, please bring over-the-ear headphones that connect via a wire to use with our audio guide system". Can I assume this audio guide system uses a standard size plug (3.5mm)?
The Whisper systems on our recent RS tours do use a standard plug. On a couple of trips, our guides have had a few cheap over the ear headphones. I was able to get one and kept it for future trips; works fine. I would recommend checking Amazon for something simple and cheap.
Another option is to remove the hearing aid from one ear to use the in-ear headphone that the guides provide. Just need to be careful to put the hearing aid in a safe place!
will wired ear buds work or do you recommend over the ear headphones?
Depends on your hearing loss. Some of the whisper systems have one ear bud, some two. I just remove my hearing aids and use the earbuds provided because the volume control is sufficient for me and do not see a need for headphones. A gentlemen on our last trip had a device that made his hearing aids blue tooth compatible with the whisper system. I wish I could find the info on that.
While I don't wear hearing aids (yet), I did find that the AirFly Bluetooth wireless transmitter I purchased for using on the plane, worked equally well with the Whisper device on our RS Best of London tour in June. I paired it with my AirPods, put the device in my sling bag, and was able to listen to the guides cord-free.
