Audio guide or English guided tour at Galleria Borghese

Hi, has anyone had experience with either renting the audio guide or signing up for the English guided tour at Galleria Borghese? The difference between the two is Euro1.50

I am travelling with my wife and 6 year old daughter and i like to stop and take photos. Would the audio guide make more sense? my only thought is that the guided tour may not allow me the time to take photos.

Thank you.

I thought the audio guide was excellent. We had toured the gallery on our own without any guide twice prior and the audio guide added a lot to our third visit.

Rather than taking pictures, why not buy a book of the gallery’s artwork? I have found the people taking photos in an art museum really get in the way of my enjoyment. With 300 people given a two-hour window to visit, if even 20% were taking pictures it would be disruptive, IMO.

yuwc, while I can't help you with the difference between audio and guided tour, as we self-toured with a book, I can warn you that taking photos in this museum isn't always allowed. If there are special exhibits along with the permanent collection, photography is often banned.

A quick glance at the most recent TripAdvisor reviews indicates that non-flash photography is currently allowed but some reviewers as recently as 4 weeks ago note that they were not allowed to take snaps.

Editing to add: Laurel's suggestion to purchase a book with photos is an excellent one. I'll personally recommend the "Galleria Borghese; The Masterpieces" softcover book we bought from their bookshop and used for our visit.

We did the guided tour. Our tour guide was excellent and answered questions which is a feature not offered with the audio guide

Last year we opted for the guided tour versus the audio guide. The tour was excellent and we had plenty of time to take pictures and revisit some of the specific sculptures. Since you are taking your 6 year old daughter, you may want to consider some extra time in the Borghese gardens. It is one of the largest parks is Rome. They have a puppet theatre, a small outdoor play area for the kids. After our museum visit, we went to one of the cafes near the puppet theatre. It was one of the most relaxing time we had in Rome. Enjoy your trip.
