We've got tickets in May for a Wednesday audience with the Pope. What is it like? How long does it last? What should women wear? How early should we get there? Do we have to wait in Vatican lines to get in? I understand there are a lot of people. Any tips on getting to actually see the Pope?
the service or church that got you the tickets will have a Q & A form letter with all these answers.
Assuming the weather is good you'll be outside and there will be thousands of people there. Your ticket gets you into an area of "general admission" seating on a first-come-first-served basis. We arrived an hour before the start and we barely found a seat. Expect a long line at the airport like screening just to get into the area. If you want to really see the Pope, bring binoculars. We found seats near to one of the edges and saw the Pope fairly close up when he first came around in the Pope-mobile but that was just luck on our part. Follow the general guidance on what to wear anytime you go to the Vatican and St. Peters.
And lastly, following the audience ceremony everyone bolts for St. Peters or the Vatican Museum - go back another time.....
