Attraction Reduced Pricing

I have two kids traveling with myself and my husband in mid-March. They are 18 and 22 and both in college. We are going to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre and Venice.

In researching the site I see reduced ticket prices for students. Some specify that it is only for EU or Italy students, some don't specify at all.

For those that don't specify should I buy the reduced and see what happens?

Is it a blanket Italy thing that a student is only in EU or Italy so is assumed at those that don't say?

adogaer, neither of your children are apt to qualify for reduced or free ticket prices. Most discounts apply only to visitors from outside of the EU under the age of 18. Unless clearly specified that they do NOT have to be a student of the EU to get the discount, I wouldn't risk purchasing reduced tickets that likely will be checked.

For instance, here are the Uffizi's rules for free or reduced admission:

https://www.uffizi.it/en/pages/free-and-reduced-tickets#reduced

Note that free tickets only apply to visitors of any nationality under the age of 18, or VERY specific EU students. Reduced tickets only apply to:

"European union citizens only, over 18 and until the day of the twenty-fifth year of age showing passport or ID. Among the non-European countries, reduced-price tickets are granted to citizens from Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Uruguay and citizens with permit cards issued for the reasons listed on the website of Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs."

This is what I am talking about when I say there aren't specifics...
This is the Doge's Palace Secret Itinerary Tour:

Children aged from 6 to 14; students aged from 15 to 25; citizens over 65; Venetian residents; holders of the Rolling Venice Card; holders of the VeneziaUnica Pack; holders of the combined ticket to the St. Mark’s Square Museums; holders of the Museum Pass; holders of the Clock Tower ticket; I.C.O.M. members; holders of ISIC – International Student Identity Card.

The Doge's Palace is a Civic Museum and the City of Venice has decided that all students can get a reduced ticket. Good for you, I see no reason to dwell in what's assumed and what isn't. I'd bring some ID saying "student".

Otherwise, since nobody here can tell you what's assumed all over Italy and at the Vatican's Museums, send an email to: [email protected] or leave a message on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/visitmuve

Oh, the Vatican Museums are an easy one as they state pretty clearly who is entitled to a discount. For instance, for a discounted, general-entry ticket:

"It is possible to purchase a ticket at a reduced price for children aged between 6 and 18 years and students up to 25 years of age on presentation of a student identity card (International Student Card) on the day of the visit"

The ID doesn't have to be an International Student Card, just a current one from their college. Yep, State, civic and private museums may all have different rules regarding discounts.

Have them bring their IDs. We got reduced prices for our children with a student ID in many places including Venice. In Venice there is a reduced price pass that is based on solely on age for the vaporetto as well. It was for young adults-more generous than college age.
