I understand that Bancomat has a 250 Euro limit. Is that per transaction, per account per day, or what. I need to pay for several apts and my account has a $1000 ATN daily limit so was hoping that I could withdraw that much in Euros per day.
Don't know if the 250 limit is universal to those ATMs. If it is it is limit to withdraw/per transactions. I find those limit more frequently in high tourist areas on weekends when the bank does not want an ATM quickly drained of cash. I have used ATMs attached to banks during open hours and easily have withdrawn 500E several times in Rome.
Larry, If your bank currently caps you at $1,000.00, ask them to push it up to $2,000.00 for a set period of travel time. You can access your account several times per day.
Larry, Bancomats,ATMs, have different limits just like in the U.S.
The limits are transaction limits and you can perform multiple transactions.
I have not used an ATM in Italy in three years, but I tried a variety of things to get an answer to this very question. I tried different machines and in different parts of town. I was only able to get 250 Euro per day. I do not know if that was my bank or the ATM's rules.
Before we moved to Europe we raised out Debit Card limits to $2,000 a day. Never knew when we might have to pull out funds for rent. There were a few ATM's that allowed more than €250 per transaction, but often we'd have to stand there and do three or four transactions... until we got our Italian debit cards. This article offers a little more insight into the ATM process in Italy.
Thanks, I will ask my bank to temporarily raise my daily approval level to $2,000. Then I will be able to withdraw enough money in a couple of days to pay the balances on the 5 apartments.
