Hi,
In reading some of the posts here, it seems it is best to not carry much USD and rather use the ATMs around town to get Euros. I am flying in to Venice and was planning to bring around $100 USD. I know that the exchange desks at the airport rip you off on the conversion. Are there any ATMs at the Marco Polo airport?
I'm sure there is, but if you don't get confirmation here, the Marco Polo airport has a website and you might find that information there.
Yes, there are ATMs and here is the web portal for Marco Polo Airport.
yes -two of them just as you exit baggage, on the right.
The document above identifies 3 banks that have 24-hour Bancomats at the Marco Polo airport. CLICK HERE and go to Page 24 to see them listed. If you want to download the .pdf file, it's 10.38MB - a bit large.
After using the ATM, be cautious putting your money away, please put in in your money belt ASAP. A few years ago we flew into Zurich and my husband used the ATM after a long flight overnight. We then boarded at train with our suitcases. He was pickpockted I think by middle age man who got on the train and then decided he wanted to get off. That was at the very start of a 2 week trip. My husband now uses a moneybelt on all trips.
For future reference, the Visa worldwide ATM locator (PLUS system) can be found on-line at http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/global/jsp/SearchPage.jsp. The Mastercard site (CIRRUS system) is at http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/cardholderservices/atmlocations/index.html. Both allow you to use several search functions, including by airports.
