Could someone please recommend the best ATM debit card and a credit card that will offer no foreign transaction fees while we vacation in Italy.
Usually, smaller banks and credit unions offer this. CapitalOne 360 account, is one bigger bank, albeit an "internet bank". Charles Schwab accounts reimburse any fees. Credit cards without foreign transaction fees are more common. The CapitalOne credit cards have no foreign transaction fees, as does the Costco Citibank Visa card.
Nowadays, big Italian banks are charging ATM fees for non-customers. I am thinking Unicredit in particular. Small bank ATM's still had no fee ATM's, it least as of last year.
Contact your credit card company and ask them that question. Most credit card companies offer a card with no foreign transaction fees. I personally never use a debit card in Europe for purchases, just ATM withdrawls and I have not found an ATM/Debit card without foreign transaction fees. Perhaps someone on here has found one.
If you are eligible USAA doesn't charge fees.
Capital one credit card has no fees. I also have a credit card from citizens bank. They also charge no international fees. Unfortunately all my debit cards do.
Neither our CapitalOne nor Wells Fargo Signature cards charge transaction fees.
My Costco Visa does not charge a foreign transaction. Call and double check, but I had no fees last year. in Europe or last month in Canada. Yesterday when I called to let them know I was going to England, they reaffirmed that they no longer charge foreign transaction fees. It is a credit card and one that you may already have. For debit, I use my Boeing Employee Credit Union debit. (I would check with whatever debit card you have first before getting a new one.)
As already noted by several people Capital One credit cards have no transaction fees. You can also open a Capital One 360 checking account to get an ATM/debit card with no fees. I did this recently via the Capital One app, it took five minutes to open the account. I linked the Cap One checking account to our primary checking account so I can electronically transfer money into it while we are traveling and make fee-free ATM withdrawals out of the country.
The Amazon VISA credit card does not have foreign transaction fees. We use a debit card associated with our Fidelity brokerage account that rebates all ATM fees worldwide.
Charles Scwab debit card has no fess anywhere in the world. They are refunded to you if incurred. I also carry AMEX, United Explorer Visa, and a Cap One MC all with no int’l fees.
