anyone know if a at&t Go-Phone works in Italy? Believe it or not, I don't get cell service where I live and have the phone as emergency phone for travel, etc.
Well, mine is ancient and does not operate on the frequencies used in Europe. I have a separate unlocked quadband phone with a SIM card that works all over Europe. If I'm in one country for a while, I might pick up a cheap SIM card on that country's own network.
According to the "official" AT&T Go-Phone website "International roaming in countries other than Mexico or Canada is currently unavailable for GoPhone." Here are the details.....

Check some of the other Threads here regarding the options you can use for phone coverage whilst in Europe.
No.
Just get an unblocked quad band phone, if you don't have one, and buy an Italian SIM card.
I have the at&t go phone and used it last summer in England, France, Switzerland and Italy. You have to get their 'international calling plan' at an extra cost of course.
thanks for the info. I'll check with the at&t folks since there was conflicting replies.
I had my ATT pay as you go phone unlocked by ATT and have used it for the last two years in France, Germany, Italy, Austria. Just switch out the sim to an international sim card.
Lots of great advice so far and I agree that it could be worth asking AT&T if they can unlock it. If they can then you can get a sim-card and hopefully the two will work with each other while you are traveling. Otherwise you can buy a basic phone once in Europe for pretty reasonable prices. You can find a lot more information here.
