We only have a half day and wondered if a 2 hour tour guide is necessary or is it easy to catch a cab to the top destinations such as the Basilica and St. Francis hermitage in the hills and st. Damian. Thank you, Kathy

Assisi sites are all within walking distance, but be prepared for hills. San Damiano is down then up getting back into the center.

You can download two Rick Steve's walking tours, one of the town and the other of St. Francis Basilica, for free! We did both tours are they are excellent.

If by hermitage, you mean the Eremo delle Carceri a cab would be best considering your limited time. Enjoy Assisi! It is one of our favorite stops in Italy.

Two hours will be tight, definitely take a cab to the hermitage and have it wait for you.
